Communion

Presbyterian Churches in general (PCUSA) practice open communion.  We particularly want to make clear that any that have relationship with Christ and trust in God are welcomed to receive communion.  Communion is a sacrament (a practice that has been given meaning by Jesus Christ himself) in which we share the bread and the cup as a sign of the sacrifice and forgiveness poured out upon us. We take the bread and the cup together in unity signifying that we are all united by our relationship with Christ, though that relationship is different from individual to individual.

Children are welcomed to take communion when their parents feel that they have a basic understanding of the special nature of the moment.  We do not require that children have a complete knowledge of the meaning of the sacrament because, to be honest, none of us fully understand or appreciate the depth of the mystery of Christ’s sacrifice for us.  If you are wondering about the timing or appropriateness of your children receiving communion, speak with Pastor Jack or with our CE Director Karen. You might also talk with their Sunday school teachers.

Communion is also served monthly at Hillside Manor (the 3rd Tuesday at 3:00) , Charleston House (2nd Wednesday at 10:00 AM), and in other locations by arrangement.  It is our goal that through this sacrament we are able to serve and nurture the faith of Christians as we build the fellowship of Grace Presbyterian Church.
